BEIJING, Jun 13 (APP):Israel’s attack on Iran is a serious violation of a sovereign state, running counter to international law and the UN Charter. The international community should stand united in resolutely condemning Israel’s actions and urging it to immediately cease military operations, resolving disputes with Iran through peaceful negotiations.
These views were expressed by Prof. Cheng Xizhong, Senior Research Fellow at the Charhar Institute in a statement here on Friday.
He said that after the attack, the international community has responded quickly.
The Chinese spokesperson stated that China opposes violations of Iran’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and opposes aggravating contradictions and expanding conflicts.
The Jordanian Foreign Ministry issued a statement strongly condemning Israel’s attack on Iran, calling it a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of a sovereign state, international law and the UN Charter.
Saudi Arabia also condemned Israel’s act of violating Iran’s sovereignty. These voices from the international community fully demonstrate that Israel’s behavior has been widely criticized and opposed, he added.
Prof. Cheng said that the international community has made many efforts to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue, and the Iran Nuclear Agreement was the result of negotiations among all parties.
The unilateral military attack launched by Israel this time is undoubtedly a great destruction of the international community’s peace efforts, and also makes the resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue more complex and difficult, he added.
Meanwhile, the United Nations and relevant international organizations should give full play to their roles in safeguarding the stability of the international order, ensuring that the legitimate rights and interests of sovereign states are effectively protected, preventing the further deterioration of the regional situation, and contributing to the peace and stability in the Middle East, he said.
