BEIJING, Oct. 9 (APP):China has nominated Dr. Song Li as its candidate for the position of director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Friday.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning confirmed the nomination during a press briefing while responding to a question about the upcoming WHO director-general election.
Mao highlighted the WHO’s leading and coordinating role in global health governance, emphasizing the importance of its director-general at a time when the world faces emerging and evolving health challenges.
She said that China’s nomination of Song reflected its willingness to work with all parties to advance the vision of a global community of health for all. She also reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to multilateralism and its continued support for the WHO.
