BEIJING, Dec 9 (APP): China’s top sprinter Su Bingtian, holder of the men’s 100m Asian record, announced his retirement from athletics on Tuesday.
Su made history in 2021 by becoming the first Chinese man to reach the Olympic 100m final, setting an Asian record of 9.83 seconds in Tokyo, and also helped China secure a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay, CGTN reported.
Born in 1989, Su was the first Chinese sprinter to break the 10-second barrier, running 9.99 seconds at the Diamond League in Eugene, USA, in 2015. He equaled the Asian record of 9.91 seconds at the World Challenge in Madrid in 2018, before lowering it to 9.83 seconds in the Tokyo Olympics semifinal, where he finished sixth in the final.
