Fawad confident of celebrating Eid same day in country

ISLAMABAD, Jun 3 (APP):Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain Monday expressed confidence that Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated across the country on same day as festivals were meant to unite the nation, not dividing it.
Addressing a press conference along with Minister for Privatization Muhammad Mian Soomro, he said, “We are trying that Eid-ul-Fitr should be celebrated across the country on the same day. We are using scientific method for sighting of Shawal moon just to unite the nation, not to let down anyone.”
The minister said it was unfortunate that in the past, two Eids were celebrated in the country and now modern technology had been used for the moon sighting to celebrate the Eid on same day.
Fawad Chaudhry said on Tuesday the age of moon would be of 28 hours and it could be visible at Karachi and Gwadar coastal areas between around 7:15 to 8:15 pm.
Fawad Chaudhry said Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman and Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai were respectable religious scholars and his ministry was ready to give demo to convince them for utilizing modern technology for moon sighting.
He said all 66 sites of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) would be open for public for moon sighting for Eid-ul-Fitr-2019. He said “The PMD has been asked to open its sites for public for the moon sighting and now any individual can visit the site.”
The minister said his ministry had launched Pakistan’s first official Moon-sighting website and Hijri Calendar for the facilitation of masses.
He was of the view that religion and science could not be separated from each other and renowned religious scholars had also advocated to use knowledge to guide the nation.
He said the way to study astronomy had been invented by Muslims scientists.
He said the whole world was using modern technology for the sighting of moon but unfortunately, Pakistan was still relaying on old method for the purpose.
During the presser, the students of COMSATS, who prepared the Moon-sighting App, also gave a demo and briefing about the use of application for sighting of the moon.
