World Bank President praises Sindh’s Community led rehabilitation model

LARKANA, Feb 04 (APP):World Bank President Ajay Banga has praised Sindh’s community-led rehabilitation model, calling it a global example. He visited the flood-affected village of Bahawal Jutt in Taluka Dokri on Wednesday, where 145 houses have been reconstructed under the Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affected (SPHF) program.
Banga said that the program is providing safe housing, clean water, sanitation, better nutrition, and social inclusion, laying a strong foundation for human capital development. He appreciated the efforts of the Sindh government and the World Bank in implementing the program.
CM Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, said that the SPHF program is a historic initiative, aiming to reconstruct 21 lakh houses for flood victims, making it one of the largest rehabilitation efforts globally. He added that the program is empowering communities to rebuild their lives.
Banga inaugurated a memorial sapling of a guava tree and met with women at the community center, where he was presented with traditional Sindhi gifts. He said that the program is providing livelihood opportunities to local laborers and injecting money into the local economy.
