Workshop held to raise awareness on justice and accountability

HYDERABAD, Jan 15 (APP):A workshop aimed at promoting awareness about the role of the Sindh Ombudsman’s Office in ensuring justice and addressing corruption in provincial institutions was organized on Wednesday at Phoenix Higher Secondary School, Qasimabad, Hyderabad. The event was conducted under the directives of Sindh Ombudsman Muhammad Sohail Rajput, with Regional Director Abdul Wahab Memon leading the initiative.
In his address, the Regional Director Abdul Wahab Memon highlighted the objective of the outreach workshop, stating that it seeks to educate students and the general public about the Ombudsman’s functions, complaint registration, hearing processes and resolution mechanisms. He further stated that the institution provides free and lawyer free access to justice, ensuring that grievances against provincial departments or corrupt officials were addressed through a simple complaint process.
Director General of the Federal Ombudsman’s Office in Hyderabad Dr Rizwan Ahmed explained the parallel roles of the provincial and federal ombudsman offices in addressing grievances. He underscored the significance of both institutions in eradicating injustices and highlighted how justice forms the foundation of a responsible citizenry and a progressive society.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Abdul Khaliq hailed the contributions of the Ombudsman institutions in providing free access to justice. However, he stressed the need for greater public awareness about their services.
Speakers included Assistant Registrar of the Sanghar Ombudsman Office Ghulam Murtaza Memon and others highlighted the importance of accountability and transparency. Students took the opportunity to inform the Regional Director about issues in their college, including a lack of library facilities, furniture and teachers. The RD assured them that written complaints regarding these matters would be addressed diligently.
Director Private Schools Hyderabad Division Syed Naveed Shah, President of Rotary Club Hyderabad Dr Sarfraz Qureshi and Dr Najeeb Ahmed also shared their views.
