LAHORE, Jul 24 (APP):Work has been started on the design and costing of the Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura, Cut and Cover project of the Yellow Line Metro Train system.
LDA and NESPAK have started work on the design and log of the project. Lahore Development Authority sources told APP that in this project, no trees will be cut or green areas will be used due to cut and cover, while an underground trackless-tram will be run by cutting and covering on the Orange Line Mall Road station style.
Likewise, a 12 to 14 foot road will be used on both sides of Lahore Canal Road for the trackless tram, a signal-free route will be made for the trackless wheel tram under the road on Canal Road, after making the route, Lahore Canal Road will be restored for traffic again.
Meanwhile,  it is worth mentioning here that a cut-and-cover tunnel is first trenched, excavated and then covered with an overhead support system. This type of tunnel is often used when there are no constraints above ground and the depth of tunnelling is shallow. This efficient method provides for a low-cost, high-quality outcome – and often requires less time.
The Yellow Line Metro Train project in Lahore is anticipated to be ready by December 2026. The 24-kilometer route, stretching from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura, will feature 20 electric train-sets imported from China.
