RAWALPINDI, Oct 27 (APP):Work on the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project is progressing rapidly on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and is now nearing completion, with over 75 per cent of construction already accomplished.
Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Director General Kinza Murtaza said on Monday that the project was advancing at a steady pace and would have exceeded 85 per cent completion had there not been temporary delays caused by heavy rains and flood-like conditions.
She was chairing a special meeting held at the RDA office to review the project’s progress, where Project Manager Lt Col Fazal Khan gave a detailed briefing.
Kinza Murtaza commended the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) for executing the project in a highly professional manner.
She said the project, costing around Rs 35 billion, was being completed without placing any additional burden on the national exchequer. She emphasised that all work was being carried out strictly within the financial commitments made by the government at the time of its launch, with no cost overruns or supplementary expenditures approved.
She said that once completed, the Ring Road would ease traffic congestion in the twin cities and surrounding areas, provide a faster route for travellers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab, and reduce travel time by about 35 minutes for commuters heading to Islamabad International Airport.
The RDA DG added that the project would ensure direct connectivity between the Motorway and the GT Road, while a feasibility study for its Phase-II was also under way and would be launched soon.
Kinza Murtaza reaffirmed that the RRR project was being executed with complete transparency, leaving no room for irregularities or corruption.
