Women rights delivery must for social progress: FM

MULTAN, Jan 22 (APP): Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Hussain Qureshi on Saturday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government took different legislative steps to ensure women protection and delivery of their right in inheritance.


While addressing a ceremony titled “The role of influential women in peace building” held under auspices of District Women Forum here, Qureshi remarked that women enjoyed due share in inheritance however the same was denied sometimes. Following complaints, the PTI government intervened and come up with legislation to ensure protection of their due right. Now, no one can deprive women from their right in inherited property.


“No society can make progress until it offers rights to women,” Qureshi mentioned.
After British era, the code of criminal procedure had been studied properly for making some amendments to provide relief to masses.

A committee, headed by Barrister Farogh Nasim, had completed work for amendments in code of criminal procedure, the FM informed. He added that Prime Minister Imran Khan would present proposed amendments before masses in near future. It will help improving police system also.


The amendments in code of criminal procedure will be a revolutionary step and will have far-reaching impacts.


The foreign minister expressed satisfaction and observed that PTI government was offering Sehat Insaf Programme under which every citizen would enjoy health cover, amounting Rs one million annually.


Lauding the role of women in progress of the country, Qureshi said that women diplomat were serving efficiently in ministry of foreign affairs. On this occasion, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Aon Abbas Bappy, provincial minister for energy Dr Akhtar Malik, MPAs Sabeen Gul, Wasif Raan, Javed Akhtar Ansari, Nadeem Qureshi, Additional Inspector General of Punjab Police Zafar Iqbal, Vice Chancellor Agriculture University Dr Asif many others were also present.
