LAHORE, Jun 23 (APP):Parliamentary Secretary for Women Development Sadia Taimour on Tuesday said that 18 Women Development Centres had been established in public sector universities across Punjab, terming the initiative a significant step towards the economic empowerment of women and their greater participation in the workforce.
Addressing the media, she said the centres had been set up under the Directorate of Women Development, Punjab, with the objective of informing, educating and facilitating women in planning their futures and acquiring the personal and professional skills required for financial independence. “These centres are not just a facility; they are a gateway for women to realise their true potential and take their rightful place in the workforce,” she said.
Sadia Taimour said the centres have been established in leading public sector universities across the province, including Government College University Lahore, the University of the Punjab, Lahore College for Women University, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan and Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi, among others.
She said the centres were providing structured training in CV writing, job search techniques, web development, career planning and research-related activities, equipping women with skills directly relevant to the contemporary job market.
The parliamentary secretary said the initiative aimed to support women at a crucial stage of their academic and professional development by integrating these facilities within university campuses. She added that the centres would help female students make a smooth transition from education to employment with greater confidence and preparedness.
Sadia Taimour said the initiative reflects the Punjab government’s broader commitment to removing structural barriers that had historically limited women’s participation in economic activities. She added that the government is considering further expansion of the programme to extend its benefits to more women across the province.
