ISLAMABAD, Jul 10 (APP):A woman who was allegedly set on fire by her husband and father-in-law in the jurisdiction of Kirpa Police Station has succumbed to her injuries, prompting Islamabad Police to convert the case into a murder investigation under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
An official told APP on Thursday that the victim, 28-year-old Sania Bibi, was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in critical condition on the night of June 8 after suffering severe burns in an apparent act of domestic violence. Despite receiving intensive medical treatment, she passed away a few days later due to the extent of her injuries.
It may be recalled that this scribe  had earlier reported on the case in June, when the FIR was first registered and the victim was undergoing treatment at PIMS.
The official said the case, which was initially registered under Sections 324, 336-B, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), has now been upgraded to include Section 302 following the victim’s death.
He said the police acted swiftly upon receiving information about the incident. Three suspects, including the victim’s husband Adil Mahmood, father-in-law Mustasib Hussain, and another family member, were arrested. Substantial forensic evidence was collected from the crime scene, and statements were recorded to build a strong case.
He said the deceased had reportedly entered into a court marriage with Adil Mahmood, and had been facing domestic abuse for some time. On the night of the incident, the suspects allegedly poured cooking oil on her during a domestic altercation and set her on fire.
He said the First Information Report (FIR) was registered on June and the investigation team ensured timely medical care, immediate arrests, and thorough documentation of the incident.
He said Islamabad Police are committed to ensuring that justice is served and that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice through due legal process.
