RAWALPINDI, Dec 02 (APP): Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi on Tuesday presided over a key meeting of the District Emergency Board to review preparedness for the forthcoming winter season and ensure public safety, uninterrupted traffic flow and swift emergency response during snowfall.
According to a district administration spokesman, the Secretary of the District Disaster Management Authority briefed the meeting on reports submitted by all departments. The presentation covered the winter and snowfall contingency plan, newly constructed Rescue 1122 stations in Murree and Kotli Sattian under the ADP scheme, the proposed air-ambulance strip along the Murree Expressway, the disaster management plan and related safety measures.
Addressing the meeting, DC Shirazi directed all departments to ensure full deployment of staff and resources in the field throughout the season. He instructed the concerned agencies to maintain continuous availability of snow-clearing machinery, ensure round-the-clock supply of electricity, water and natural gas, and strictly implement the Master Snowfall Emergency Response Plan.
He said personnel posted at facilitation centres must perform their duties responsibly so that tourists and local residents do not face unnecessary difficulties.
The deputy commissioner added that, in any emergency, citizens may contact Rescue 1122 or the Rescue Control Room at 051-9330016 and 051-9330025, as well as the District Control Room at 051-9269016 and 051-9269018.
The meeting was attended by the District Police Officer, Chief Traffic Officer, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Assistant Commissioner Kotli Sattian, Superintendent of Motorway Police, District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122, Divisional Forest Officer, and representatives from the Highways and Buildings departments, Special Branch, National Highway Authority, Health Department, Civil Defence, WAPDA, Waste Management Company and other departments concerned.
