Wheat cultivation gains momentum in Faisalabad division

FAISALABAD, Oct 31 (APP): The wheat cultivation has gained momentum across Faisalabad division under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s ‘Grow More Wheat’ campaign.
Chairing a meeting of agriculture officers, Divisional Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar said that the administration is fully committed to achieving wheat cultivation target of 1.834 million acres by November 30.
He expressed satisfaction over the enthusiastic participation of farmers and active role of agriculture field teams in promoting timely wheat sowing.
He noted a significant reduction in the incidents of crop residue burning though 22 cases were registered and fines worth Rs.1.5 million were imposed during the current season.
He said that numberdars and patwaris are actively engaged in ensuring cultivation of wheat on state land while interns and students from University of Agriculture Faisalabad are delivering awareness sessions directly to the farmers.
Farmer Training Programs are also being held regularly to equip the cultivators with modern agricultural techniques, he added.
During briefing, Director Agriculture (Extension) Chaudhary Khalid Mahmood informed that the division has adequate stock of fertilizers while wheat seeds are being provided to the farmers at official government rates.
He said that Kisan Card initiative has enabled the farmers to benefit from various government subsidies and support schemes. This facility would also ensure maximum participation in the ongoing wheat cultivation campaign, he added.
Additional Commissioner Coordination Aamir Raza and others were present in the meeting.
