HYDERABAD, Jul 23 (APP): Following a Naegleria Fowleri virus related death in Hyderabad and the subsequent directives of the Sindh Health Department, Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Board Corporation (HW&SBC), has formed a 6-member committee to ensure proper water filtration.

According to an office order issued by the Corporation’s Managing Director Zahid Khemtio on Monday, the committee had been given 3 terms of references.

The top TOR is to ensure that the chlorination standard as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) is followed.

The committee has been tasked to monitor and inspect all filter plants, water works and water supply installations to ensure optimum to maximum standards of public health in the wake of Naegleria virus.
The committee would also have to conduct joint surveys with the officials of Sindh Health Department in addition to submitting its report on a daily basis to the MD.

The committee is headed by Executive Engineer XEN Shewan Kumar while XENs Imran Khan and Ishaq Siddiqui as well as Assistant Engineers (AENs) Imran Mani, Muhammad Adil and Muhammad Amir are its members.
Separately, on Tuesday the MD wrote letters to all the XENs to submit reports on a daily basis about water testing in all parks, swimming pools, ponds, canals and Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants.

The MD directed the XENs to submit reports along with maps. “… slackness would not be tolerated as it is the most important issue of the health of the general public,” he warned.
The officials will have to submit reports to the chairman of the 6-member committee besides the MD.
