Water flow normal in most rivers of Punjab, urban flooding alert issued

LAHORE, Jul 20 (APP):The PDMA has said that water flow in most rivers of the province is normal, however, low-level flood situation persists at some places of River Chenab, while the water level is expected to increase in the next few days.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, low-level flood has been recorded at Khanki and Qadirabad in River Chenab, the inflow of water at Khanki is 125,000 cusecs and the outflow is 117,000 cusecs, while the inflow of water in Qadirabad is 146,000 cusecs and the outflow is 127,000 cusecs.

The spokesperson said that the water flow is normal in the places of Marala, Trimmu and Panjnad of the Chenab River, Jasar, Shahdara, Head Sidhnai and Baloki of the Ravi River, Ganda Singh Wala, Sulemanki and Head Islam of the Sutlej River, while the water flow is normal in the places of Tarbela, Kala Bagh, Taunsa and Chashma of the Indus River, similarly, the water flow is normal in the rivers of Dera Ghazi Khan. The PDMA has warned that the water level is likely to increase in the rivers of Punjab by July 24.

There is also a possibility of flood situation in the rivers adjacent to the Ravi River and Chenab, including Basantar, Dek, Ek, Palkho, Bhimbar, Halsi and Dora, while a flash flooding warning has been issued in the rivers of Dera Ghazi Khan. According to the spokesperson, there is also a risk of urban flooding in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Okara, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar and Rawalpindi divisions.

The DG PDMA has directed citizens living on the banks of rivers and in low-lying areas to immediately move to safer places. He said that the Punjab government has set up flood relief camps in the potentially affected areas, where the victims will be provided with basic facilities, food and medicines.
