RAWALPINDI, Jul 01 (APP): After a cloud burst late Monday night, the water level, which reached 15 feet at Katarian and 15.5 feet at Gawalmandi bridges in Nullah Leh, had receded, but all operational wings of the local administration were still on high alert on Tuesday as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast more rain during next week.
According to a Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi spokesman, 30 mm rainfall was recorded at Saidpur, 39 mm at Golra, 25 mm at Bokra, 78 mm at PMD,70 mm at Shamsabad, 38 mm at Katcheri and 54 mm at Pir Wadhai.
He said that with the start of rain, WASA Managing Director Muhammad Saleem Ashraf immediately rushed to supervise the staff draining water from highways and low-lying areas.
Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin, Secretary Housing Noor ul Amin Mengal and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema were also monitoring the operation.
Due to timely dredging and de-silting of the Nullah Leh by WASA, the flood water passed smoothly, he added.
