SARGODHA, Jan 30 (APP):The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Sargodha on Friday organized an awareness walk to promote public awareness about the protection of the drainage system and the prevention of loss of human lives due to open manholes.
The awareness walk started from the Arts Council Complex and concluded at DPO Chowk.
Deputy Commissioner Sargodha Hussain Ahmed Raza Chaudhry led the walk, which was attended by Assistant Commissioner Sheerin Gul, Managing Director WASA Rana Muhammad Abubakar, other officials, representatives of civil society, citizens, and a large number of WASA employees and workers.
Talking to the media, the Deputy Commissioner said that open or uncovered manholes pose a serious threat to human lives. He urged citizens to immediately report missing or damaged manhole covers by contacting WASA’s helpline 1334. He assured that upon receiving a complaint, an initial response would be provided within 30 to 60 minutes to prevent any untoward incident.
He further stated that, in line with the directions of the Chief Minister Punjab, development projects are underway in Sargodha and strict safety measures are being ensured at all construction sites.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the primary objective of the awareness walk was to sensitize the public so they could identify hazardous spots in their surroundings and promptly inform the concerned authorities, adding that the issue cannot be effectively addressed without public cooperation.
On the occasion, Managing Director WASA Rana Muhammad Abubakar said that WASA teams are actively deployed in the field and immediate action is being taken on complaints received through the helpline to ensure timely redressal.
