WASA launches drive to install fire hydrants at all government hospitals

FAISALABAD, Sep 01 (APP):Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) has launched a comprehensive initiative to strengthen
fire safety at government hospitals across the city and installed four fire hydrants at different
locations of Allied Hospital-I.
WASA Managing Director Engineer Saqib Raza said here on Tuesday that the initiative was
being implemented in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, under which
total 20 fire hydrants would be installed at government hospitals in Faisalabad to improve their
emergency firefighting capacity.
He said that four fire hydrants had been installed at Allied Hospital-I while another 16 hydrants
would be installed at other major government hospitals across the city.
Giving some details of the program, he said that four fire hydrants would be installed at Allied
Hospital-II (DHQ Hospital), two at Children’s Hospital, two at Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology (FIC),
two at General Hospital Samanabad, two at General Hospital Ghulam Muhammad Abad and
two at Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Hospital.
The remaining installations would be completed by September 05, he said, adding that WASA
teams were working to ensure that the facilities became operational within the stipulated
timeframe.
He said the WASA was fully committed to protecting precious human lives in any emergency
particularly at hospitals where large numbers of patients, attendants and healthcare workers
remained present.
He said the installation of dedicated fire hydrants would strengthen hospitals’ ability to respond
promptly to fire emergencies and provide an additional layer of safety for patients and medical staff.
If the need for additional fire hydrants was identified at any hospital during the ongoing assessment,
WASA would make arrangements to meet the requirement as well, he said.
The initiative was being executed on priority basis and no compromise would be made
on the safety of citizens, he added.
