WASA accelerates sewerage projects; strengthens monsoon preparedness

MULTAN, Jul 13 (APP):In line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to provide a clean environment, an efficient sewerage system, timely drainage, and safe drinking water to citizens, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Multan is rapidly implementing a number of development projects across the city.
Talking exclusively to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Managing Director WASA Multan, Faisal Shaukat, said that the completion of ongoing sewerage schemes was being ensured on a priority basis to improve civic infrastructure and facilitate residents.
He said the sewerage project on Nishtar Road had been completed, while construction and upgradation of sewerage lines on Tariq Road, Hussain Agahi and several other localities were progressing at a fast pace.
The MD said obsolete and deteriorated sewerage lines were being replaced in phases to resolve long-standing drainage issues and establish a modern and efficient sewerage network across the city.
Highlighting WASA’s preparations for the monsoon season, Faisal Shaukat said all necessary arrangements had been finalized. Disposal stations, machinery and operational staff had been placed on high alert to ensure an immediate response during rainfall.
He said WASA teams, equipped with the required machinery, remained fully prepared to reach affected areas without delay and ensure timely drainage of rainwater from roads and low-lying localities, minimizing inconvenience to the public.
He added that effective measures had already been taken at locations previously vulnerable to water accumulation during heavy rains, while the drainage system had been further strengthened to improve rainwater disposal.
The Managing Director said strict safety measures were also being implemented at all ongoing development sites. Construction areas were properly cordoned off and necessary precautionary arrangements made to ensure the safety and smooth movement of the public.
Faisal Shaukat reaffirmed that WASA Multan was fully committed to realizing the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif by utilizing all available resources to provide quality municipal services, improve sewerage infrastructure, and maintain a clean and healthy urban environment.
