LAHORE, Jul 04 (APP):The Election Commission , in collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), has launched a province-wide voter registration campaign in Punjab to reduce the gender gap in electoral rolls and ensure registration of all eligible citizens, says a press release issued here on  Friday.
As part of the initiative, mobile registration vans and other resources will be deployed across 25 districts of Punjab to facilitate the issuance of Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs), particularly to those who are currently unregistered. As per Election Commission, a significant number of residents in these districts lack CNICs and are therefore absent from the voter lists.
The first training session for Commission and NADRA officials was held at the Provincial Election Commission Office  here. Addressing the session, Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab, Sharifullah, stressed the importance of increasing female voter registration through the issuance of CNICs to women.
“To bridge the gender gap in voter registration, we must prioritize the issuance of identity cards to women. The Gender Wing of the Election Commission has developed a targeted plan under the title ‘Voter Registration Campaign – Phase 5’, which will be implemented across 25 selected districts,” he stated.
Sharifullah emphasized that successful execution of the campaign will require coordinated efforts not only from the commission and NADRA but also from civil society organizations, political parties, and other stakeholders. “A unified strategy is essential to eliminate the disparity between male and female voters,” he added.
