Gilgit, Dec 26 (APP):Chief Election Commissioner Gilgit Baltistan Raja Shahbaz Khan has said that display centers have been established across Gilgit Baltistan for the registration and correction of voters’ details in the electoral rolls.
Addressing a press conference at the Election Commission Secretariat in Gilgit he stated that the public can get their votes registered and verify or correct their particulars at these centers till the end of the current month.
The Chief Election Commissioner further informed that due to severe weather conditions and on the request of political parties the schedules for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections and local government elections have been postponed. He added that a new election schedule would be announced soon.
Raja Shahbaz Khan clarified that both general and local government elections in Gilgit-Baltistan would be held on a party basis. He emphasized that the Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission holds complete constitutional and legal authority to conduct local government elections, while certain elements are spreading baseless misconceptions in this regard.
He assured that all necessary arrangements have been finalized to ensure free, fair, transparent, and impartial elections. He also stated that a proper legal framework exists for holding local government elections and that these elections would be conducted at all costs.
Reiterating his commitment, the Chief Election Commissioner said that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan would be provided their long-deprived right to representation through the local government system, ending a deprivation that has persisted for the past 21 years.
