Virtual 3D speed breakers, software controlled signals: AI to help manage traffic in Multan, Bahawalpur

MULTAN, Aug 01 (APP): Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab Fuad Hashim Rabbani Thursday gave a go-ahead signal for the launch of artificially intelligent traffic management systems in Multan and Bahawalpur cities to cope with rising traffic pressure and tasked officials to list problematic points in order to install AI-powered sophisticated tools and software applications.

Virtual 3D speed breakers would be installed at important cross-sections experiencing enormous traffic pressure to create an optical illusion to guide motorists and bike-riders when to slow speed and stop. One out of six AI-powered traffic management softwares would be installed in the traffic signals, according to an official release issued here.

On the orders of ACS, a software engineer bureaucrat, Deputy Secretary Abdul Saboor Thakur, is leading a committee of engineers from development authorities of Multan and Bahawalpur to come up with a comprehensive policy on deploying AI and it’s tools.

Secretary Agriculture South Punjab Saqib Ali Ateel, Secretary Services engineer Amjad Shoaib Khan Tareen, additional secretary Farooq Dogar, deputy secretaries Nayyar Mustafa, Abdul Saboor Thakur, DG Bahawalpur Development Authority (BDA) Mahboob Alam, Additional DG Multan Development Authority (MDA) Ms Qurat ul Ain Wazir, Prof. Dr. Naveed Yasir from AI department of Emerson University, besides traffic police officials from Multan and Bahawalpur attended the meeting, whic was chaired by ACS Fuad Hashim Rabbani that discussed employing artificial intelligence in managing traffic in detail.

Saqib Ali Steel said on the occasion that six models of AI applications were available for deployment. He said that MDA and BDA would provide infrastructure facilities for AI-powered traffic control system in their respective cities.

Engineer Amjad Shoaib Khan Tareen said that a model 3D speed breaker would be installed in front of main gate of Emerson university on Bosan road.

ADG MDA Qurat ul Ain Wazir said, three roads in Multan were traffic busy including Bosan road, metro route and inner city road.
