LAHORE, Nov 20 (APP): In a major stride toward modernising judicial processes and ensuring timely justice, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has introduced a comprehensive video-link facility in district courts and ex-cadre courts across Punjab.
The initiative, launched under the directives of LHC Chief Justice Ms. Aalia Neelum, aims to provide swift, convenient, and high-quality justice to litigants right at their doorstep.
According to an LHC press release issued here on Thursday, litigants or lawyers wishing to avail the service must submit a request form—available on the district judiciary’s official website (https://dsj.punjab.gov.pk)—at least seven days prior to the hearing date. The facility enables remote participation in court proceedings, reducing the need for physical appearance and helping minimize delays.
The video link option may be availed by individuals who are unable to appear in person due to illness, disability, geographical constraints, travel restrictions, or security concerns. However, proclaimed offenders are strictly barred from using this facility.
Once approved, the concerned court will set a date and time for the video link hearing, with the cause list carrying a “video-link” tag. No adjournments will be entertained on the day of the hearing. Parties must ensure the presence of their witnesses at the designated site at least one hour before proceedings. Identity verification will be conducted through original CNIC or passport, along with biometric authentication.
For disabled litigants requiring verification, the local District Court will depute an officer to visit their location, with travel costs to be borne by the litigant. Litigants residing abroad may attend proceedings via the Pakistan Embassy, High Commission, Consulate, or an authorized Notary, subject to court approval.
The LHC has emphasized that video link hearings will be conducted in a fully secure and transparent environment. Only the court is authorized to record the proceedings; any unauthorized recording on the litigant or lawyer’s side is strictly prohibited. The requesting party must cover the expenses of the facility and provide a USB or external hard drive (125 GB to 500 GB) in advance for official recording. The recording will form part of the case file and remain password-protected.
This forward-looking reform is expected to significantly enhance access to justice, reduce case delays, and bring the judicial system closer to citizens across Punjab.
