LAHORE, Jun 06 (APP): Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) Regional Committee on Food Convener Shahid Imran underscored the need for adopting hybrid seeds across all major crops to enhance agricultural productivity and tackle the growing challenge of food insecurity in Pakistan.
Talking to a delegation of progressive farmers from Sahiwal, led by Chaudhry Muhammad Asif Arain, here on Friday, he said that traditional farming techniques and conventional seed varieties were no longer sufficient to meet the food demands of a rapidly expanding population, particularly in the face of shrinking arable land.
He emphasized that high-quality hybrid seeds developed by Guard Agricultural Research and Services offer a promising solution, delivering higher yields, improved resistance to pests and diseases, and enhanced tolerance to climate-related stresses. “Widespread adoption of hybrid seeds in crops like wheat, rice, maize, and vegetables can substantially increase per-acre productivity,” he noted.
The shift, he added, would not only help stabilize the national food supply but also improve farmers’ incomes and reduce Pakistan’s dependence on food imports. However, he stressed that the success of this transformation depend on the implementation of farmer-friendly policies, focused training programs, and increased investment in agricultural research and development.
“Embracing hybrid technology is no longer a choice—it is an essential step toward achieving food security and agricultural resilience in Pakistan,” he added.
