DG KHAN, Jan 02 (APP):Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Usama Abdul Karim was elected unopposed as a Member of the Punjab Assembly from constituency PP-289 constituency Dera Ghazi Khan after his all rival candidates withdrew their nomination papers.
According to unofficial result issued by RO office, a total of 10 candidates had submitted their nomination papers to contest the by-election scheduled for January 25. These included Sardar Dost Muhammad Khan Khoso, Sardar Muhammad Usama Khan Khoso, Usama Abdul Karim, Anas Abdul Kareem, Syed Abdul Aleem Shah, Zafar Bashir, Muhammad Hussain, Iftikhar Ahmed, Muhammad Abad Khan and Khan Syed.
The returning officer completed the scrutiny of nomination papers on December 18, while December 31 was the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers. All candidates except Muhammad Abad Khan withdrew their nomination papers by the deadline. Muhammad Abad Khan later submitted a written request to the Returning Officer on January 1, formally announcing his withdrawal from the election.
It is pertinent to mention that the PP-289 seat fell vacant after Sardar Mahmood Qadir Khan Leghari resigned from the PP 289 seat upon being elected as a Member of the National Assembly from NA-185.
