US Senior State Department official highlights trade, investment, opportunities during visit

KARACHI, Jul 29 (APP):Senior State Department Official Elizabeth Horst visited Karachi to strengthen economic ties and explore opportunities for deeper trade and investment partnerships between the United States and Pakistan.
During her visit, Horst and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah discussed mutual economic priorities in a meeting at Chief Minister House. Their conversation focused on strengthening the U.S.-Pakistan economic partnership and creating an environment conducive to commercial growth by promoting private sector-led business and trade activities in the province, a communique said on Tuesday.
 Horst also held two events to speak with leaders of the American Business Council and Pakistani businesses to explore opportunities for expanding U.S.-Pakistan trade relations and enhancing commercial activities.  At a tea with Pakistani women innovators participating in a U.S.-funded South Asian Regional Women Innovators mentorship program, she highlighted U.S. support for women’s economic empowerment and initiatives that drive technological innovation and economic growth.
In her engagements, Horst spoke of the immense potential for U.S.-Pakistan collaboration in emerging sectors.  She remarked, “The United States and Pakistan share a long history of economic partnership, and we believe that by working together, we can unlock the full potential of Pakistan’s economy, create new opportunities for American businesses, and contribute to the economic development of Pakistan and United States of America.”
This visit by a high-ranking State Department official reinforced the U. S. commitment to fostering economic partnership, promoting mutual prosperity, and supporting Pakistan’s development that also fosters U.S. economic growth.
Horst served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, and as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Pakistan from July 2022 to July 2025.
