GUJRAT, Jun 27 (APP):Secretary and Chief Administrator Auqaf Punjab Dr Tahir Raza Bukhari inaugurated the 361st annual Urs celebrations of Hazrat Shah Daula Daryai with the traditional chador-poshi ceremony.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Dr Bukhari emphasized that the teachings of Sufi saints play a vital role in promoting peace, tolerance, and social harmony. He urged religious scholars and communities to actively support peace efforts during Muharram and to counter extremism through the Sufi message of love and service.
He stated that the present government remains committed to the universal values of Islam and views the revival of the traditional khanqah system as essential for social development. “The historic role of Sufi saints in public welfare and moral guidance must never be overlooked,” he added. The ceremony was attended by Manager Auqaf Syed Usman Shah, Zonal Khateeb Bashir Ahmad Farooqi, District Khateeb Hafiz Saeed, members of the Religious Affairs Committee, religious scholars, and a large number of devotees. Dr. Bukhari also reviewed the shrine’s expansion project and stressed the importance of enhancing facilities for pilgrims.
He said the Auqaf Department has made comprehensive arrangements for security, sanitation, and free food (langar) during the three-day Urs celebrations, which also include religious gatherings and sessions highlighting the life and teachings of Hazrat Shah Daula Daryai.
