SARGODHA, Oct 17 (APP): The Institute of Food Science and Nutrition University of Sargodha, organised an awareness walk, a seminar and poster competition to mark World Food Day 2025 under the global theme “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future.”
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas led the awareness walk as chief guest, accompanied by guest of honour Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Masood Sarwar Awan. Other attendees included, Mr. Iftikhar Sindhu from Flour Mills Association, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahid from the Department of Biochemistry University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Mr. Shahbaz Sarwar Deputy Director Punjab Food Authority, Ms. Zaib-un-Nisa from Nutrition International, Prof. Dr. Main Anjum Murtaza Director Institute of Food Science and Nutrition, Representatives from Food Industries, School Nutrition Program, faculty members and a large number of students.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas highlighted the growing challenges in global food security. He emphasised that modern food systems must adapt to climate change, population growth, and resource limitations through science driven solutions and responsible consumption.
Later, a seminar was held at MFKNBS Hall to foster awareness about nutrition challenges and sustainable food production.
In his welcome address, Dr. Anjum Murtaza underscored the importance of building resilient and inclusive food systems. He stated that ensuring access to safe and nutritious food is not only a matter of survival but a cornerstone of sustainable development.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahid emphasized the nutritional value of locally produced foods. He underscored that promoting indigenous crops and balanced diets is vital for improving public health and reducing dependency on imported food products.
Ms. Zaib-un-Nisa highlighted the effects of vitamin and nutrient deficiencies on human health. She stated that nutrition education from an early age can transform eating habits and ensure long term wellbeing.
As part of the event, a poster competition was also organized among students, showcasing their creative expression on the themes of food security, sustainability, and nutrition awareness.
