SARGODHA, Oct 08 (APP):The University of Sargodha organized a session titled “Imagine Pakistan 2030: Challenges, Opportunities & Way Forward” to explore the nation’s developmental prospects, governance challenges, and strategic direction for the coming decade.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas presided over the session. Mian Amer Mahmood Chairman Punjab Group graced the occasion as the chief guest while Chairman Superior Group Prof Dr Chaudhry Abdul Rehman and Executive Director Punjab Group Prof Sohail Afzal were guest of honour. The event was also attended by Pro VC UoS Prof. Dr. Masood Sarwar Awan, Deans, Director, Chairpersons, faculty members and a large number of students.
Speaking on the structural challenges of governance, Main Amer Mahmood highlighted that decentralization was the key to addressing Pakistan’s socio-economic issues. He noted that managing smaller administrative units was more effective than handling large, centralized segments.
He further stressed that Pakistan’s low literacy rate remains one of the most pressing challenges
the nation would face in the coming decade. With over 25 million children currently out of school — the highest number in the world — the country risks deepening its crises of poverty and unemployment in the years ahead. He warned that if these children remain deprived of education, the next decade could bring even greater socio-economic instability.
Noting that nearly 64 percent of Pakistan’s population comprises youth, he emphasized the urgent need to invest in their education and skills development, asserting that only timely and consistent efforts can steer the nation toward sustainable progress.
In his address, Prof Dr Qaisar Abbas stated that education and health, two of the most important sectors of the country, have long been neglected, and stressed the urgent need for reforms to ensure inclusive development. He encouraged students and faculty to engage in research driven dialogue and contribute ideas that can guide the nation toward inclusive development.
Prof Dr Abdul Rehman underscored that Pakistan was approaching its centenary in 22 years.
He called upon participants to assess the country’s achievements and to develop strategic approaches that promote sustainable growth and drive national development through 2030 and beyond.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion, where participants shared their views on governance reforms, education, and technological advancement as key drivers for Pakistan’s progress in the next decade.
