UoP celebrates international day of artists with street children’s art exhibition

PESHAWAR, Oct 22 (APP):The University of Peshawar (UoP) on Wednesday celebrated the International Day of Artists with a special art exhibition held at PUTA Hall on October 22, as part of the University’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
The exhibition was jointly organized by the Department of Social Welfare, Merged Districts, and the Department of Art and Design, UoP, providing a creative platform for street children to showcase their artwork.
The event aimed to highlight the challenges faced by street children and amplify their voices through artistic expression.
Tayaba, former Chairperson of the Department of Fine Arts, University of Peshawar, graced the event as the chief guest. Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare (Merged Districts), UNICEF, the University faculty and students also attended the ceremony.
Supported by UNICEF, the initiative focused on promoting the psychosocial well-being of street children through creative engagement.
 It is part of a broader effort that includes life skills-based education, peer support networks, and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) programs.
The organizers and faculty members appreciated the Directorate of Social Welfare, with UNICEF’s support, for their continued dedication to the welfare of children living and working on the streets.
Special thanks were extended to the Department of Fine Art and Design, particularly Qurat Ain and Faiza Tauqeer, Chairperson, for their invaluable support in facilitating the exhibition and promoting creative collaboration.
The departments reaffirmed their commitment to future partnerships, engaging university students and faculty in art-based initiatives to empower street children in Peshawar.
During the event, a souvenir was presented to the Department of Social Welfare team in recognition of their outstanding efforts to engage children through developmental and creative activities.
