MULTAN, Nov 07 (APP):Exactly 328 students of MNS Agricultural University Multan joined hands with the Agriculture department as part of a collaborative initiative ordered by Punjab Secretary Agriculture Iftikhar Ali Sahoo after he launched Grow More Wheat campaign aimed at increasing wheat production.
Addressing vice chancellors of agricultural universities online, the Secretary emphasized the critical role of agriculture students in boosting wheat yields and directed that the campaign be executed with maximum efficiency and coordination, university spokesman said on Friday.
Sahoo underscored the need for an organized program in which agriculture students actively collaborate with the department of Agriculture (Extension) to disseminate modern farming knowledge and assist farmers at the grassroots level.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor of MNS University of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Asif Ali (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz), announced that 328 senior students of the university would participate in the campaign. These students will guide farmers in adopting best practices. Their participation will be monitored through a geo-tagging system to ensure effective field performance.
On the first day of the campaign, MNS University’s students, in collaboration with the Agriculture department, conducted awareness and training sessions across eight districts of Punjab. The initiative focused on promoting modern wheat production technologies, timely sowing practices, balanced fertilizers application, and adherence to scientific recommendations to increase per-acre yield.
During the field visits, students and extension workers inspected wheat fields, conducted village-level seminars and practical demonstrations, and trained farmers through model plots. Farmers appreciated the active participation of university students and lauded the joint efforts of the university and the Agriculture department for providing timely and practical guidance.
The initiative represents an exemplary model of partnership between academia and the Provincial Agriculture department, aimed at equipping farmers with modern knowledge, ensuring better implementation of agricultural practices, and ultimately enhancing wheat productivity across Punjab.
