Universities must cultivate entrepreneurial skills to match industry needs: FCCI president

FAISALABAD, Oct 16 (APP):President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) Farooq Yousaf Sheikh said on Thursday that higher education institutions must enhance their practical relevance by promoting entrepreneurial skills and an innovation-driven culture among graduates through close consultation with the industrial sector to meet the evolving demands of a dynamic economic landscape.
He was addressing the opening ceremony of “Career Fair 2025”, organised at main campus of Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF).
He said that immediate reforms in the current curriculum were imperative to replace traditional degree-oriented education with a purpose-driven system that produces practically skilled individuals.
He said that the universities should avoid from creating a population of educated but unemployed youth. These institutions should produce such individuals who are capable of securing respectable employment or launching their own businesses to generate jobs for others, he added.
He appreciated the vision of GCUF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf Azam for organizing consecutive career fairs and acknowledged the commendable efforts of Directorate of Career Counseling and Alumni Office of university.
Such initiatives play a vital role in bridging the gap between academia and industry by enabling graduates to secure immediate employment opportunities in leading national organizations based on their skills and qualifications, he added.
He further said that inclusion of industry-oriented courses in local universities’ curricula was imperative to align education with practical needs. In this regard, FCCI was ready to extend all possible cooperation to universities for the design and implementation of such programs, he assured.
He highlighted the broader impact of such efforts and expressed confidence that collaboration between academia and industry would significantly help reduce unemployment among educated youth while propelling industrial growth and national economic development.
Earlier, FCCI President inaugurated the Career Fair 2025 by cutting ribbon and also visited various stalls set up by participating organizations and institutions.
