RAWALPINDI, Jun 23 (APP): Participants of the Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen (Inter-Muslim Unity) Conference on Monday agreed on collective efforts to maintain interfaith harmony and eliminate sectarianism in cooperation with the administration.
Maulana Mufti Dr Ramzan Sialvi, Khateeb Data Darbar Mosque Lahore, especially participated in the conference organized by the Commissioner Office in collaboration with Divisional Peace Committee Rawalpindi.
The aim of the conference was to promote peace, inter-Muslim unity, inter-faith harmony and the Piam-e- Pakistan during Muharram-ul-Haram.
Besides Peace Committee members, Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Aamir Khattak, Regional Police Officer Babar Sarfraz Alpa, and deputy commissioners and senior police officers of all districts of Rawalpindi Division participated in the conference.
Addressing the conference, Mufti Ramzan Sialvi said unity and sectarian harmony were the need of the hour and the efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in that regard were commendable.
The conference, he added, was being organized on her instructions with the objective to ensure peace and order in the holy month.
Muharram-ul-Haram, he said, “teaches us a lesson of self-sacrifice and sacrifice”.
Mufti Sialvi said the scholars of all schools of thought were advocates of inter-Muslim unity and they had always played a constructive role in maintaining peace and order.
Commissioner Aamir Khattak, in his speech, said district administrations and security agencies would ensure security arrangements across the division in collaboration with peace committees.
“An atmosphere of peace and order will be maintained with the cooperation of all stakeholders and citizens,” he affirmed.
The commissioner assured that strict security arrangements would be in place on the routes of the processions.
He said social media was being monitored and no one would be allowed to spread hatred.
Commissioner Khattak observed that Ulema and scholars had always promoted religious tolerance, and urged them to play a role in maintaining the atmosphere of brotherhood during Muharram-ul-Haram.
RPO Alpa, in his remarks, said the police were fully ready for ensuring foolproof security during Muharram. Complete screening and sweeping of routes and places would be carried out before holding sensitive processions, he added.
Policemen would be deployed on the designated routes of the processions across the region, the RPO said.
Peace Committee members lauded the commissioner and the district administration for making excellent arrangements for the conference.
Assuring their cooperation for maintaining peace and order, they expressed satisfaction over the security and administrative measures taken by the administration for Muharram.
