UN agencies celebrate 80-year of the UN in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Oct 24 (APP):United Nations’ agencies, in collaboration with the University of Agriculture, Peshawar, celebrated UN Day 2025 at the FAO Office premises, marking 80 years of the UN’s founding and its continued commitment to peace, development, and human rights under the theme: “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.”
The event brought together representatives from UN agencies, provincial departments, academia, and students to reaffirm collective efforts toward sustainable development, climate resilience, and inclusion especially for refugees, displaced persons, women, and Persons with Disabilities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Opening remarks by the FAO Officer In-Charge KP Sub-Office highlighted the importance of sustainable livelihoods and climate action, followed by reflections from the acting Chair, UN Provincial Programme Team, on 80 years of multilateral cooperation under the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
A moving “UN Day Voices” segment featured UN staff sharing experiences from the field, supporting displaced communities, promoting women’s rights, aiding refugees, and responding to floods.
The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony marking 80 years of service and a sapling plantation symbolizing renewal and hope.
Exhibition stalls showcased refugee-made handicrafts and UN programs promoting humanitarian aid, early recovery, and self-reliance for Afghan refugees and vulnerable Pakistanis.
The celebration underscored the UN’s enduring partnership with the Government and people of Pakistan, a shared commitment to advancing peace, inclusion, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that no one is left behind.
