KOT ADDU, Jan 27 (APP):Two labourers were killed in a fire at a sugar mill shelter,caused by a short circuit.
Police said that the victims,Husnain Abbas(19) and Numan Anwar were living in makeshift accommodation with 60 to 70 other workers inside the mill premises.
According to the FIR lodged by the father of the deceased,the shelter contained exposed and faulty electric wires, some lying on the floor and others hanging loosely from the rooftop.
The fire broke out late last night when a short circuit in one of the wires sparked the blaze,which quickly engulfed the room,trapping the two workers.
The complainant has accused sugar mill owner Ali Shehzad and senior officials Zafar Iqbal Siddiqui,Muhammad Shahid and Muhammad Sami of negligence in maintaining safe working conditions,leading to the incident.
Sanawan police have registered a case and launched an investigation,vowing to hold those responsible accountable.
