MANSEHRA, Jul 24 (APP):A two-day international conference on Archaeology Wednesday kicked of at Hazara University, Mansehra under the auspices of Directorate of Archaeology and Museum Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Leicester University UK, American University of Beirut Lebanon and Shanghai International Studies University China.
The conference on “British Period Archaeology and Heritage of Pakistan will continue till July 25, 2024 where archaeologists from the UK, Korea, China, Turkey, Egypt and Lebanon, as well as professors, historians, scholars and students of other Pakistani universities are participating.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Vice Chancellor Hazara University Prof. Dr. Mohsan Nawaz said that the British era has left a deep impact on our culture and architecture, established in different cities of the country, which is our joint responsibility to discover and preserve.
The Vice Chancellor said that the Department of Archaeology of the University in collaboration with the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has done exemplary work to unearth the British era signs.
Director Archaeology and Museums Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr. Abdul Samad said that British colonial architecture has left a deep impact on the entire region, especially Pakistan. He briefed the participants about the steps being taken by the Provincial Directorate for archaeological findings in different districts of the province.
Egyptian archaeologist Dr. Marwah Soliman gave details about Egyptian archaeology and the progress and research activities in the field.
Prof. Dr. Ruth Young, Department of Archaeology, University of Leicester, UK said that the British Council is working on major projects to discover and preserve archaeological landmarks in Pakistan with the aim of protecting archaeology and exposing historical heritage around the world to provide information about ancient civilization to the public.
Dr. Ruth Young said that the Department of Archaeology Hazara University and the Provincial Directorate of Archaeology and Museums are doing valuable service in this regard. Earlier, Dr. Shakirullah Khan, Chairman, Department of Archaeology HU welcomed the local and foreign experts on their arrival at the university and highlighted the objectives of the conference. The two-day conference is being attended by archaeology professors, experts, historians and students.
