RAWALPINDI, Feb 06 (APP):Two dacoits were injured and arrested while two of their accomplices escaped after opening fire on a police team in the Mandra area late on Thursday night.
A spokesman for the Rawalpindi Police said on Friday that four motorcycle-riding suspects resorted to firing when the policemen attempted to stop them during routine checking in the jurisdiction of the Mandra Police Station.
In the exchange of fire, two wanted dacoits were apprehended in an injured condition, while two others managed to flee. The injured suspects were identified as Niaz and Shahbaz.
The police recovered a motorcycle snatched at gunpoint from a citizen about one and a half months ago, along with weapons, from the arrested suspects. The spokesman said the held dacoits were involved in multiple cases of robbery and vehicle theft.
During the firing, a bullet struck Constable Ali, who remained unhurt due to his bulletproof jacket.
On receiving information about the incident, senior police officers reached the spot along with additional force, while search operations were launched in the area to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The injured dacoits were shifted to the hospital.
City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani appreciated Superintendent of Police (SP) Saddar, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gujar Khan and the Mandra Police for displaying bravery, arresting the wanted dacoits and recovering the snatched motorcycle.
“Those who endanger the citizens’ lives and attack the police cannot escape the law,” the CPO said.
