RAWALPINDI, Oct 2 (APP):Two civilian persons were killed and two police officials injured on Wednesday night when suspects opened indiscriminate fire on a police party in Pirwadhai area.
According to a police spokesman, the incident occurred when a police team, accompanied by the complainants, went to the spot for identification of suspects wanted in the murder of a nephew by his uncle.
The suspects, hiding on the rooftop of their house, opened fire as soon as they saw the police, leaving Inspector Mirza Arif and Constable Niamatullah seriously injured, while the two complainants accompanying the police lost their lives.
On information, heavy contingents from nearby police stations rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area to arrest the culprits. The injured were shifted to Holy Family Hospital, while search operations were launched to apprehend the suspects.
Meanwhile, City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani, along with Senior Superintendent of Police Operations Kashif Zulfiqar, visited the Holy Family Hospital to enquire after the injured policemen. He expressed good wishes for their recovery and directed the hospital administration to ensure the best possible treatment.
The CPO reaffirmed that the assailants who targeted the police and citizens would be arrested and punished according to law, adding that the sacrifices of the police in the fight against crime were unparalleled.
