Two Afghan dacoits in handcuffs after police encounter in Capital

ISLAMABAD, Feb 25 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police thwarted a gun attack by accomplices of an Afghan dacoit gang, leaving two arrested accused injured during an exchange of fire in Shalimar police station jurisdiction.
An official told APP on Wednesday that the Shalimar police team was taking arrested suspects, identified as Malyar and Adil, for the recovery of stolen property based on their disclosure and pointing out.
He said that during transit, four accomplices riding two motorcycles opened direct fire on the police team in an attempt to free their associates.
The official said police officers remained safe due to bulletproof jackets and other protective measures. However, the arrested suspects, Malyar and Adil, sustained injuries from the firing by their own accomplices.
He said the injured suspects were shifted to hospital for medical treatment.
Police also recovered snatched valuable mobile phones and a motorcycle from the possession of the accused.
The official said the arrested Afghan suspects were previously recorded and wanted in multiple cases of mobile snatching, particularly involving foreign nationals.
He said search operations were underway to arrest the fleeing accomplices.
