SIALKOT, Oct 27 (APP):On Monday, Dr. Mehmet, the Consul General of Turkey, and his wife visited Government College Women University Sialkot (GCWUS) to participate in a ceremony marking Turkish National Day. The event, which was held at the university, saw Dr. Mehmet addressing the gathering as the chief guest, as noted in a release by the varsity.
In his speech, Dr. Mehmet expressed the Turkish government’s commitment to fostering cooperation with GCWUS in various fields, including education, research, and Turkish language courses. He announced plans to establish a ‘Language Center’ at GCWUS, similar to the one in Lahore, where students would have the opportunity to learn the Turkish language.
Vice Chancellor of GCWUS, Dr. Shazir Basheer, warmly welcomed the Consul General and reflected on the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and Turkey. She noted that both Allama Iqbal and Rumi had highlighted Turkish culture in their poetry. Dr. Basheer emphasized the need for a bilateral student exchange program and further cooperation in research. She also echoed the request for the establishment of a Turkish Language Center at GCWUS.
During the visit, Dr. Mehmet also planted a sapling in the university’s garden, symbolizing the growing ties between the two nations. The event was attended by students, teachers, and staff, who gave a warm welcome to the distinguished guest and celebrated the strengthening of educational and cultural relations between Pakistan and Turkey.
