QUETTA, Jul 20 (APP): One Day training session strengthening journalists’ role in promoting mother and child health organized at Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering and Management Science (BUITEM).
The training session on SBC Intervention and strategies for nine districts of Balochistan journalists was organized by contribution of Provincial Government Health and United Nation International Children Emergency’s Fund (UNICEF) at BUITEMS.
Journalists from respective districts of Balochistan including Quetta, Mastung, Pishin, Klila Saifullah, Duki, Dera Bugti, Sibi, Chaman and Hub participated the training session.
SBC Officer of UNICEF Zia-ur Rehman said that the purpose of a one-day training session is on prevailing behaviors, challenges, solutions, the journalist’s role in advocacy and addressing myths and misconceptions.
He said that maternal mortality rate is 298 percent in Pakistan according to survey of Pakistan Maternal Mortality in 2019 as infant mortality rate is 66 percent saying that journalists would highlight such issues to create awareness among people to decrease maternal mortality ratio in the area of the province.
He also highlighted misinformation and disinformation of news and said that it was responsibility of journalists to deal false news through their positive role.
Mr. Zia also urged the journalists to play their positive role for strengthening mother and child health in the province saying that maternal mortality cases is increased in the province due to lack of awareness.
Monitoring and Evolution Officer Khair Bukhsh, Engagement Officer Zoya Khan and ISD Field Coordinator Shahid Lehri highlighted several importances issues including nutrition, mother health, child health, girls education and cleansing matters of the province.
They also stressed that media personnel that they would focus such issues for improvement of mother health, children health and education of the province
The participants of the training session raised questions regarding same issues and concerned officials answered them in well method.
Journalists including General Secretary of Quetta Press Club Ayub Tareen also appreciated the organizers for arranging such important training session and hoped that such vital training session would be conducted in the province for betterment of the journalists.
At the end of training session, certificates were distributed among participants’ journalists.
