LAHORE, Nov 21 (APP):Television Day was celebrated all over the world, including Pakistan, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of television, its cultural and linguistic benefits and its use among the public at the international level.
The importance of television in modern times cannot be ignored in any way. If women do not watch dramas in their homes, they cannot spend their time. If children watch cartoons, someone is interested in news.
Television is such an amazing invention that it is the most powerful means of communication, information and access to news in the present era.
The United Nations had announced in 1996 that World Television Day would be celebrated on November 21 every year.
The aim of celebrating this day is to highlight the importance of television for entertainment, education and training and obtaining information. TV was launched in Pakistan on November 26, 1964 with a black and white screen, after which information, entertainment and news filled the lives of people.
Former PTV producer Agha Qaiser told APP that the history of television in Pakistan is not that old, adding before 2000, only the state-owned television used to speak in Pakistan. There were a few private channels as well, but they did not have that popularity.
He said that this day was observed annually to acknowledge the increasing impact of television on will and decision making by bringing global attention to issues, conflicts and threats to peace and security, adding its potential role in focusing on other major problems and issues, including socio-economic and pure social matters.
However, soon after, such a race of private TV channels began that a line of small and large channels, including news channels, sports, entertainment, etc., was formed.
Today, people have become so accustomed to watching TV channels that it seems difficult to live without them.
