Telemedicine programme launched at DHQ Hospital Abbottabad
ABBOTTABAD, Sep 14 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Sarmad Saleem Akram on Monday inaugurated the “Umeed-e-Sehat Telemedicine Programme” at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital to provide specialist medical consultation to residents of remote and difficult-to-access areas.
Under the programme, citizens would be able to consult specialist doctors through video calls without travelling long distances to hospitals. The facility would particularly benefit elderly people, persons with disabilities, women and residents of remote areas.
During the initial phase, telemedicine services would be available three days a week. Citizens could contact the hospital through WhatsApp at 03195416589 for video consultation with doctors of the relevant OPD.
The service would be available from 12 noon to 1:30 pm on Tuesdays for the Medical OPD, Wednesdays for the Surgical OPD and Thursdays for the Gynaecology OPD.
Doctors would provide online consultation on general health problems and common illnesses through the Medical OPD, surgery-related issues through the Surgical OPD, and women’s health and gynaecological problems through the Gynaecology OPD.
A committee headed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Finance and Planning) has also been constituted to ensure effective implementation and monitoring of the programme. The Medical Superintendent DHQ Hospital and District Health Officer would serve as members of the committee.
The committee would oversee integration of the telemedicine system with hospitals, Basic Health Units (BHUs) and Rural Health Centres (RHCs) across the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram directed the relevant authorities to ensure uninterrupted operation of the programme and effective monitoring of the telemedicine services.
He said the district administration was focused on using modern technology to improve access to quality healthcare for people living in remote areas.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Medical Superintendent DHQ Hospital Dr Amir Asrar, Assistant Commissioner Abbottabad Afrasiab Zubair Hindal, DMS and other relevant officials.
