SWCCI demands review of IPPs agreements

SARGODHA, Jul 28 (APP):The Sargodha Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SWCCI) executive committee held a meeting here on Sunday to discuss in detail escalating energy crisis in the country.
According to a press release issued here, the meeting, held via Zoom and presided over by SWCCI President Mrs. Shameem Aftab, resulted in a unanimous resolution, urging the government to immediately review the capacity payment agreements with the independent power producers (IPPs).
All meeting participants strongly supported the resolution, including Senior Vice President Sadia Khan, Vice President Tanzeela Riaz, Executive Member and MD Khan Medicare 32 Block Sargodha Dr. Humaira Azhar, Dr. Nusrat Javid Awan, Ms Shazia Bangish, Ms Robina Mukhtar, Tehseen Fatima, Dr. Atika Lohani, and SWCCI Secretary Ms Saira Rehan.
Highlighting the devastating impact of the energy crisis, Dr. Humaira Azhar emphasised that it posed a significant challenge to businesses, particularly women entrepreneurs, following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr Nusrat Manzoor underscored the critical role of energy in business operations, asserting that controlling energy prices was essential for establishment and growth of enterprises.
The SWCCI’s resolution carries a stark message: the government must choose between saving 40 IPPs or the livelihoods of 240 million Pakistanis. The chamber called for immediate action to address the crisis and protect the interests of the business community.
