LAHORE, Feb 25 (APP): The district administration sealed a super mart and imposed fine of Rs 110,000 during a crackdown on overcharging and hoarding across the provincial capital on Wednesday.
The action was taken on the special instructions of Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ijaz, who ordered for strict enforcement of officially notified prices to protect consumers during the ongoing price control campaign.
Assistant Commissioner Raiwind Dr Abid Mumtaz Sial conducted inspections of various super marts in Tehsil Raiwind, reviewing the prices and quality of essential commodities, particularly at DC-designated counters established to provide relief to citizens.
During the inspections, a well-known super mart was sealed on the spot after confirmation of overcharging and violation of official rate lists at DC counters. In addition to the sealing, heavy fines totaling Rs110,000 were imposed on violators.
The DC made it clear that no leniency would be shown to profiteers or those creating artificial inflation. He directed all super marts to prominently display official rate lists and strictly comply with government-notified prices. He emphasized that the purpose of DC counters is to provide direct relief to the public, and ensuring quality and price stability at these counters was mandatory. The DC said that action against overcharging and hoarding would continue with iron hands, with zero tolerance for violations.
