DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Nov 06 (APP): The sugarcane crushing season 2025–26 will officially begin across the district from November 15, with all necessary preparations finalized to facilitate farmers and ensure smooth operations.
It was decided in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Abdul Nasir Khan to finalize arrangements for the upcoming sugarcane crushing season. The meeting was attended by officials from the District Food Department, Assistant Commissioner Proa, representatives of local sugar mills, and sugarcane growers.
The public notices regarding the start of the season will be displayed by sugar mills from November 7.
Deputy Commissioner Abdul Nasir Khan has directed all departments concerned and mill administrations to strictly follow provincial government guidelines for the timely commencement of crushing.
He emphasized that sugarcane growers must be provided complete awareness about harvesting, transportation, and related processes before the season begins.
To enhance road safety during sugarcane transportation, the use of traffic lights, reflective tapes, and proper illumination on tractor trolleys has been made mandatory.
The sugar mills have been tasked with inspecting their suppliers’ vehicles to ensure compliance.
The deputy commissioner also instructed that the role of middlemen be completely eliminated so that farmers can deal directly with mills and receive fair profits for their produce.
Meanwhile, the practice of sugar hoarding was strongly condemned and declared intolerable. The DC directed the Food Department and Assistant Commissioners to launch immediate and indiscriminate legal action against anyone involved in hoarding.
With all arrangements now in place, sugar mills across Dera Ismail Khan are set to begin full-scale crushing operations from November 15, ensuring a fair and efficient start to the new season.
