PESHAWAR, Sep 12 (APP): Following serious action against hoarders of sugar, the price of the commodity has witnessed a significant fall of Rs 50 to 55 per kilogram in the markets of the district.
According to the local market, the sugar was now available at Rs 162 to 165 per kilogram. Shopkeepers said a strong check on sugar smuggling and the closure of the border with Afghanistan has caused a tangible fall in the
prices of sugar.
On the other hand, the citizens, while commending the government’s efforts in controlling the prices of sugar and actions against the hoarding mafia, have demanded gearing up actions against the sugar mafia to further bring down its prices.
A cut in prices of 50kg sugar sack was also reported in the market as dealers said control on sugar smuggling and closure of the Torkham border have helped reduce the price of sugar.
The price of sugar had reached Rs 220 per kg in the markets of Peshawar that was reduced to Rs 170 per kg a couple of days ago. However, due to concentrated efforts and actions against the hoarding mafia, the sugar price was now reduced to Rs 162 per kg.
