Sufi teachings key to tackling modern spiritual and social challenges, scholar says

CHINIOT, Jul 13 (APP):Prominent Islamic scholar Professor Dr. Muhammad Akram, Director General of the Sharia Academy at the International Islamic University Islamabad on Monday called for reviving the teachings of Sufi saints to address growing spiritual and social challenges, saying modern society is grappling with anxiety, intolerance and moral decline despite material advancement.
Addressing an extended sermon organized by Jamia Muhammadi Sharif in Chiniot on the theme *“Purification, Conduct and Contemporary Challenges,” Dr. Akram said the timeless message of peace, compassion and self-purification preached by the Sufis offers practical guidance for overcoming the crises facing today’s world. He urged scholars and religious institutions to promote values of tolerance, brotherhood and ethical conduct.
The scholar said rapid material progress had failed to provide inner peace, leaving many people vulnerable to spiritual unrest and mental stress. He stressed that strengthening moral character and fostering harmony through Islamic teachings were essential to counter the negative effects of materialism and social polarization.
Presiding over the event, Jamia Muhammadi Sharif President Sahibzada Muhammad Qamar-ul-Haq Ziaei thanked the distinguished guests and participants for attending the gathering. He underscored the importance of such forums in promoting spiritual awareness and encouraging constructive dialogue on contemporary issues
