LAHORE, Dec 31 (APP): Punjab Health Minister and Chairman Cabinet Committee on Law and Order Khawaja Salman Rafique has directed strict action against one-wheeling, hooliganism and aerial firing on New Year’s Night to ensure public safety and maintain peace across the province.
He issued these directives while presiding over the 46th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order held at the Punjab Home Department on Wednesday. Secretary Home Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi and representatives of various law enforcement agencies briefed the meeting on the prevailing law and order situation.
The meeting conducted a detailed review of security arrangements across Punjab and finalized comprehensive measures for New Year’s Night as well as other key issues. It was decided to continue the deployment of Rangers in Mianwali, Attock and Dera Ghazi Khan. The committee also expressed serious concern over incidents of illegal kite flying in certain areas of the province.
Approval was granted for the appointment of Price Control Magistrates in various districts, while the formation of Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) for 17 different cases was also endorsed. The meeting directed authorities to ensure effective combing operations and the use of Hotel Eye software across the province to strengthen monitoring and maintain law and order.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said that the protection of life and property of citizens remains the state’s top priority. He added that the overall law and order situation in Punjab is satisfactory and, in line with the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab, law enforcement agencies are working round the clock to ensure peace.
Secretary Home Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi informed the meeting that kite flying has been banned across Punjab under the Kite Flying Regulations Bill 2025. He said that the provincial cabinet has allowed Basant on a limited scale in Lahore on February 6, 7 and 8 in accordance with the law. He warned that illegal kite flying poses a serious threat to human lives and stressed the need for strict enforcement of the law.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Auqaf Ehsan Bhutta, Special Secretary Home Fazlur Rehman, Additional IG Operations, DIG Special Branch, DIG Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and relevant Additional Secretaries of the Home Department. Commissioners, Regional Police Officers (RPOs), Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) from across Punjab joined the meeting via video link and presented briefings.
