The event was organized by Deputy Director Environment Dr Rabia Nosheen. Deputy Director Colleges Sadia Kanwal, Principal Dr Sobia Ishrat and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Anil Saeed said that plantation was indispensable to cope with the effects of climate change and every citizen should actively participate in this national campaign. He said planting trees was not only a continuing charity but also a guarantee of a clean and healthy environment for future generations.
He further said that forest cover in Pakistan accounted for nearly 5 percent of the total land area, which was significantly lower than the global standard of 20 to 25 percent, making plantation campaigns all the more important. Likewise, according to experts, one acre of forest has the capacity to absorb nearly six tons of carbon dioxide annually.
